Autumn Palette Ponderings

I always feel a little bit of grief when autumn arrives ~ the departure of summer and the loss of the warmth can be challenging for my little heat seeking body.

I ruefully trudge through September until October arrives whereupon I begin to lean into the magic of the season.
this October has been quite beautiful - the shadows deepen and the sunlight seems to be determined to pierce through all the remaining leaves on the trees and shrubs. little by little more sun cascades through the branches as foliage falls. a sharpening of shadows accentuating the windows of light.
a kaleidoscope of colour transforms the landscape and the cackle of jaybirds fill the air.
it is a time to prepare for winter.

once I stop resisting the seasonal shift, I remember how much I love autumn. I begin my annual process of deeply appreciating the dramatic shift in plant plumage, the cool crisp air and sit in deep gratitude for all that came before and what is now fading into the soil. the leaves turn and fall, exhausted berries drop, flowers determinedly stand with the last of their colourful petals as the sky filled with clouds and rain fills the rivers and streams. the salmon then steadfastly return to gift their bodies to ecosystem + mushrooms bloom.

it is all a rather profound.

the majesty of colour that each season brings is awe inspiring and it is reflected in our clothing, naturally. the natural palette is a reminder of how ancestors used plants to dye the fabrics we adorned our bodies with - the tones of the natural surrounding then reappear in textile form. lichen, mushrooms, forest foliage.

it often feels like a subliminal camouflage - for us to retreat into our cozy places as the winds shift - draped in the seasonal colours of the decaying deciduous forest.
the forest floor is a mosaic of colour and texture.

autumn is a wonderful time of the year - just as spring brings life autumn begins the process of incubation for the next spring to emerge. the quiet, nourishing stage for the next life to emerge after the silence of winter.

it is a time of reverence, a time of gratitude, a time of reflection and cultivation of contemplative patterns to support us until the return of springtime flowers - whereupon a whole new palette emerges.

thank you for being here,
