fabric care

fabric information + care instructions:

Our garments are lovingly handmade on Vancouver Island using high quality fabric.

Linen is a strong, adaptable fabric, but being a natural fibre it is not indestructible.

We recommend careful washing as detailed below to ensure you can enjoy your garment for years to come.

Note also that because we use a natural fabric, shrinkage can cause small shifts in the dimensions from bolt to bolt - this is a natural phenomenon and reminds us we are working with natural textiles. There may be small variations in finished dimensions which are entirely natural and unavoidable.
Our dimensions are as accurate as we can get considering this naturally occurring factor.

It keeps us humble.

We shrink (cold wash + machine dry) our garments after sewing to provide you with a clean, stable and ready to wear garment.

This being said if your garment is washed in warm (or heaven forbid!) hot water and tossed in the dryer there is a good chance it will shrink even further.

(We hope that doesn’t happen - as it is always a sad day.)

When you receive your garment it is pre-shrunk yet you can expect the linen to relax with wear.

As with all natural fibres, there will be wear and tear in high contact areas (thighs, armpits, etc). This is to be expected, and we do not replace garments due to wear and tear.

We offer free remnants in corresponding colour if you wish to mend and extend the life of your garment - please reach out for assistance.

garment care:

Always wash in cool water - Inside out is ideal - with a gentle, natural detergent + either machine dry on cool or better yet, hang dry your garment. If you are drying in the sunshine be sure to also dry inside out as the sun will bleach your garment.
Linen doesn’t require and benefits from minimal washing - not unlike jeans or wool.

If you choose to iron - be sure to mist your garment or take it out of the dryer just before it is fully dry and iron at that stage.

The more you wash your linen the softer and more beautiful it will become but know that overwashing will shorten the life of your garment.
Linen requires less washing than most other fabrics due to its moisture wicking + anti-bacterial qualities.

Washing by hand and hang drying will lengthen the life of your garment - but do not feel the need to be precious with your linen as it is a naturally durable fabric and wants to be where you are.

Linen likes a good adventure!

A wee trick:

Every now and again wash your clothes with a splash of white vinegar to spruce them up. The vinegar will release any residual oil or soap build-up and make it soft and fresh.
Cold water, and hang to dry.
